For more than 430 years Lucas Bols has created liqueurs and genevers that travel the world. In 1575 the Bols family began distilling liqueurs in Amsterdam. In 1652 the company’s leading man, Lucas Bols, was born. He was an influential business man during the Golden Age, when Amsterdam was the world’s major trading city. Lucas Bols had first choice of the ‘new’ herbs and spices that seafaring merchants brought into Amsterdam from the West Indies. With his knowledge of distilling, he then created 300 different liqueurs, by distilling, macerating and percolating those natural ingredients.
In the blind test, Bols products scored particularly well as far as natural and full-bodied aroma is concerned, and where a full-bodied and soft flavour is involved. Bols liqueurs were judged as significantly better than the other brands over the whole line. Bols are preferred for its “real”, fruity flavour, the excellent aroma and the proper density of the liqueurs.
